When I talked to the Matron, she said that when I was there, I asked her to write a letter confirming that Dad was in the nursing home. Apparently I gave her an envelope to put the letter in, and I asked her to post it.
I have no recollection of this. I don't know where the letter was supposed to go, or why.
Do you?

So, as part of keeping track of Dad's finances, there were a couple of things I got done today.
I filled in the claim form for Attendance Allowance as much as I could, and posted it to Mrs. Molloy to fill in the rest. I asked her to send me the bills for the nursing home, and I'll see about paying them. More about Mrs. Molloy in my next post.
I phoned up the Inland Revenue and gave them his new address. I did the same for DWP which is where his state pension is sorted out. I couldn't do the same for his private pension (Norwich Onion) because I don't have the account number. If you come across it do please let me know.
Meanwhile, in looking at the DWP paperwork, it seems as if Dad is already getting Attendance Allowance!! But he's getting the lower rate; Mrs. Molloy thinks he will qualify for the higher rate.
Please send me any letters for Dad that might be bills or having to do with taxes or pensions, and I'll take care of them.

The Hazlewell Nursing Home should apply to the Wandsworth Primary Care Trust for 101 pounds per week. Everyone's eligible, it is a flat rate.
(Actually, there's a higher rate if you're really in need of intensive nursing care.)
That should appear on our statement(s) that we receive from the home.
Mr. Patel said he would apply for it; it's free money for him, so I expect he has already.
From 10th April (which is when Wandsworth will stop contributing) Dad will be eligible for Attendance Allowance, which is either 43 or 64 pounds per week. Dad has to apply for it. I called and asked them to send an application form. He'll be getting it in the post at the nursing home. Mrs Molloy promised to help fill it in, remember?
Speaking of the post, should we ask the post office to forward his letters?
Next topic: Thames Water.
While I was in the flat last week, a bill came from Thames Water for over six hundred pounds for 2008-2009.
I telephoned them and said the flat is empty and unfurnished.
They've stopped billing him and will be depositing a refund for the time he hasn't been in the flat.
They also suggested that a water meter be installed. They will send a 'meter installation request form'. If it is worthwhile, we could do that.

Carpeting
I suppose when it's carpeting time, we could move Dad, his bed, the TV, the chair etc into one of the bedrooms for the day or two that it will take.
Meanwhile, if Dad's living in the sitting room now, I thought perhaps we don't need to carpet the hallway.

feeling down, didn't sleep well
I talked to Dad today and he said he didn't sleep well last night; he finally got to sleep around 5 am, he said.
He also seems a bit disturbed by the recent changes in his environment. I suppose he'd like nothing to change. But the reality is things have got to change; the flat was getting much too cluttered. I expect he'll get used to the new look in a week or so.

Letters for Rob
Ron, some letters arrived for you at Dad's; do you want me to open them and look, or just send them straight to you; just send me an e-m if you like, or ring.

things generally shaping up
Hi all, things are looking a bit better esp in the big bedroom. Matt has provided a newish and much better mattress, we've sorted out some nice pillows, sheets and ok duvet, looking quite nice in there. Sarah had been manically cleaning the kitchen and bathroom this morning, also cleared a shelf for each of us in the wardrobe.
Microwave, toaster and kettle all there. Dad was quite grumpy today about all his stuff being moved around and other things appearing. I reminded him that he could have been installed in a home for a couple of weeks, and this could have happened without him stressing. It will only get worse for him with the plumbing, decorating etc. Anyway he was generally grumpy. I think he quite likes the hot mills on wills, and the delivery people have been shown how to open his door properly after a bit of a fiasco yesterday when they didn't deliver his mill.
He is not at all keen on the possibility of using the commode.
The groovy chair hasn't turned up yet.
More soon,
Fi xxxx
